Recommended Books
I would like to recommend some excellent books on Literal Hermeneutics.
The book I really learned sound hermeneutics from is "A Layman's Guide to Interpreting the Bible" by Walter A. Henrichsen. I picked this up probably about 10 years before I went to Tyndale (Bible school) and it turned out to be excellent, AND pretty much lock-step with my Hermeneutic text books when I did finally go to Tyndale. It is a 1980 publication, but as of this writing (11/14/2025), a quick search turned up several copies ranging from $2-6.
Mal Couch was the founder and president of Tyndale when I attended the school and the church for several years. He was also my instructor for my first class, "Hermeneutics." Dr. Couch has published a book on the subject, "An Introduction to Classical Evangelical Hermeneutics" by Dr. Mal Couch, general editor. It is very good and is available from Amazon in Kindle format for about $25.
My two text books for my class on Hermeneutics are also very good. These are "Protestant Biblical Interpretation" by Bernard Ramm (used market availability $5) and "Basic Bible Interpretation" by Roy B. Zuck (widely available new and used).
