I would like to recommend some excellent books on Literal Hermeneutics.
The first is one which I've used for a very long time and may now be difficult to find. It is "A Layman's Guide for Interpreting the Bible" by Walter A. Henrichsen. If you can find one, buy it.
There are two books which were my texts for my Hermeneutics class which I also recommend strongly. They are:
"Protestant Biblical Interpretation" by Bernard Ramm and
"Basic Bible Interpretation" by Roy B. Zuck.
Lastly, I recommend a book which is more specific in application of the hermeneutic principles covered in the works noted above. The book is "An Introduction to Classical Evangelical Hermeneutics" by Dr. Mal Couch, general editor.
